Intrapleural Pressures on the Contralateral Side in Pleurisy with Effusion
نویسنده
چکیده
The intrapleural pressures on the contralateral side in pleurisy with effusion were within the normal range, the normal intrapleural pressures among Indians being ?14 to ?3 cm. of water during inspiration, ?10 to 0 cm. water during expiration, and the mean pressure ?12 to ?2 cm. water (Laha, 1946). Neither the amount nor the duration of effusion had any effect on the intrapleural pressures on the contralateral side. .

Induction of lymphokine-activated killer cells by intrapleural instillations of recombinant interleukin-2 in patients with malignant pleurisy due to lung cancer.
Intrapleural instillations of recombinant interleukin 2 (RIL-2) were performed in 11 patients with malignant pleurisy due to lung cancer. Kinetic studies on RIL-2 concentration in the pleural effusion and serum revealed relatively long-term maintenance of detectable levels of RIL-2 (over 24 h in the pleural effusion and over 8 h in the serum). Clinically, pleural effusions and cancer cells in t...

A 46-year-old woman developed a right pleural effusion 8 weeks after standard chemotherapy for tuberculous pleurisy on the left side had been started. Pleural biospy demonstrated caseous granulomatous changes. The patient improved following continuation of the same treatment.

BACKGROUND Intrapleural fibrinolytics have been used successfully worldwide for the management of complicated pleural effusions and empyema. Bleeding complications are usually mentioned as rare side effects, but there is no clear information in the literature addressing the alarming outcome that might result following the use of alteplase as a fibrinolytic in the management of complicated parap...

This case describes a young male with pleuro-pulmonary tuberculosis having one-week history of fever and hemoptysis along with a multiloculated right sided exudative lymphocytic pleural effusion. His pulmonary diagnostic confusion was due to passage of adult Ascaris lumbricoides per orally but that was found to be of intestinal origin. Pleural tissue histopathology revealed necrotizing granulom...
متن کاملComparison of Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery and Intrapleural Urokinase as an Initial Treatment for Parapneumonic Effusion and Thoracic Empyema
Introduction: The treatment of complicated parapneumonic effusion (PPE) and thoracic empyema (TE) is controversial; and the choice of treatment after confirming the failure of simple drainage remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of intrapleural urokinase (UK) administration and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) as initial treatment options for PPE and...
